Label Sensor for Clear, Transparent and Paper Labels

A label sensor detects the gap between labels on the backing web, so the labelling machine stops each label in exactly the right place. Voxintech ultrasonic clear label sensors detect transparent labels on transparent liners as well as metallic and paper labels, and are widely used on pharmaceutical, food and FMCG labelling machines. Fork models offer a 0–3 mm sensing gap, slot depths from 1 mm to 69 mm, an M8 4-pin connector and teach-in setup.

Ultrasonic or Optical – Which to Choose?
An optical model uses light to see the gap between labels, which works well for paper and other opaque labels. Clear labels on a clear liner let the light pass straight through, so the sensor cannot see the gap. An ultrasonic model measures the change in thickness instead of light, so it detects transparent, metallic and printed labels reliably. If your line runs both paper and clear labels, choose the ultrasonic version.
Label Sensor Applications
- Pharmaceutical bottle and vial labelling machines
- Food, beverage and FMCG labelling lines
- Label printers, rewinders and label inspection machines
- Sleeve and wrap-around labellers
Installation Tips
Mount the fork so the label web runs through the middle of the slot without touching either arm, and keep the web tension steady – flapping material is the most common cause of missed gaps. Position the sensor close to the peel plate so the stopping point stays accurate at high speed. After changing to a new label roll or liner, repeat the teach procedure. Keep the fork clean of adhesive and dust, and route the M8 cable away from motor and servo cables to avoid electrical noise.
Label Sensor FAQs
Why are clear labels missed?
Optical sensors see through transparent labels and liners. Switch to an ultrasonic model such as ULS24B360M84, which senses the label edge by thickness rather than light. You can read more about how ultrasonic transducers work.
How do I set up the sensor?
Thread the label web through the fork, press teach on the liner and then on a label, and the sensor sets its switching point automatically.
Teach-in models with dynamic and remote teach are available.
